coupe vs. si
i'm just about gettin ready to start lookin at dealerships for a coupe, but im debating whether i should get the v6 or the i4 (manual for both). im hesitant about gettin the v6 cuz of the lower mpg, which isn't gonna help my limited budget since im a college student. i just need a car with enough power to speed up when i need it to. i was just wonderin how the i4's power compares to the si? i know the coupe i4 is heavier and has less hp, but is it really that noticable? if it's not, i think i might go with the i4 since its mpg is alluring. if not, i'm sure i can manage with the v6.
any input would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

i was trying to get an si but i got the accord instead. the horsepower difference is only 20 (i4 = 177 si = 197). it depends really. you said you are a college student (i am too), but you have a budget. if you just need a car to get around, get the i4. i floored it once and vtec kicked it and made a lil loud roar that i could hear over my music. the accord handling and braking is excellent and takes only 10 seconds of driving to get used to (for me atleast). but if you got money, go ahead and get the v6 and go kill some mustangs on the highways

the I4 does put out the 190hp but has a redline of 7100rpms... if ur a rpms freak like myself 7100 is kinda boring... not to mention the Si has more aggressive cams resulting in a stronger vtec kick and sound...
the accord has 162tq compared to the Si's 139tq... the accord comes with the crappy plastic intake manifold and the header is integrated on the head like the new 1.8 civic motor... both have similar emissions and mpg considering the Si is a 2.0 sport model and the accord is a 2.4 eco model i'd say the Si did a good job with that... as far as performance the Si would be better compared to the V6 accord... even tho the hp is similar to the 2.4 accord, the Si is stronger mainly b/c of the compression and aggressive cam profile... given what u said about being on budget and all i wouldn't even consider the V6 accord b/c of the price and the drop in mpg... overall if u want a decent powered car with an occasional sporty feel then the accord is the way to go... but if u want a nice power band with a high redline and a aggressive sporty feel the go with the Si... |

the third gear issue on the Si is blown way out of proportion... yes i'd admit that some ppl have real problems with their 3rd gear... but most don't...
i mean it really is DRIVER error... when it comes down to it... if it was really a problem then HOA would've taken care of it right away... i don't want to make this thread about the 3rd gear issue on the Si, so let's just leave it as that... |

I got into an accident with my 06 civic lx (and getting 08 accord coupe i4 soon.)
I believe it will be a very close match... Horses do count but i mean.. its only 7 hp.. furthermore, thats just a number of horses that runs in front of your car What matter is the torque...torque torque torque...some too fast too furiousers don't look at torque..... why ... why....... I really think it will be a close match... Mayb I'm wrong lol. p.s: Horses do get tired so your car might slow down at some point. |

![]() i had a friend that dyno'd a TC @ 210hp w/180tq redline higher than the Accord too... and she couldn't beat my STOCK Si... torque gets u off the line HP keeps u moving... not to mention the Si makes it's peak HP within 100-200rpms to redline so ur not slowing down anywhere in the rpms... as opposed to the I4 accord would make it's peak HP close to 500-1000 rpms b4 redline... then have nothing but torque once the HP drops... like i said somewhere on here the better comparison would be with the Si and the V6 Accord... |

Ok Ok~ You Win.
Gratz on beating TC that has way over hp and torque over Si .. Theoratically TC with that much of number should be able to beat Si.. But... I mean.. theoratically its a woman driver. Furthermore.. Si and V6 Accord ... It is unfair to compare I4 and V6. You will have to wait until my I4 comes to my house next week.. and I will race one of 8thcivic members that live around me. .. but you could be right. and I could be wrong. |
