Brake Pads
so a bit over 6 months & 15,000 miles later my brakes squeaked and almost immediately went from squeak to a scraping sound.
Took it into the dealer because I really didn't think it was the brakes. Anyways it was the brakes after the wheels were taken off. What surprised me more was that it's the rear brakes not front. The service manager and technician said that they put better material pads in the front now so rear wears out faster. Anyone replaced their brake pads yet? |

I'm still under 1000 miles on my '09 and the brakes are squeaking daily already. Seems to only happen during light braking. I think it sounds like it's coming from the back / right side more than the left or front.

the brakes are definitely something that Honda needs to look at, not the pads just overall brake performance. they will squeak from time to time but when its time to change it will be a scraping noise. Do you spray water on your wheels when you wash your car? |

Bring out the popcorn
, this is a long one. Boring maybe. Unless you have squeaky brakes too.The following events took place at Route 23 Honda, Pompton Plains, NJ. Content is my experience and does not reflect the opinions of anyone else involved with this forum. My brakes have been squealing since I purchased my car in September, 2008. I have taken the car in three times already. Also, I called Honda Customer Service and they told me they would get back to me. It's been about three weeks and I have not heard anything. 1st service visit(10/16/08): I was told that due to the change in brake pad composition, i.e., no longer using asbestos, squealing is normal operation. Of course I thought that was complete b.s., but I took my car and left. My breaks continued to squeal... 2nd visit(10/27/08): I test drove the car with a service advisor or the service manage, do not recall. He confirmed the brake noise was constant and I was told the brakes may only be adjusted. Left in a loaner car, received a call hours later stating they replace the front pads. ALLEGEDLY. I have aftermarket wheel locks on my car, I can only assume the technician actually went in my semi-messy trunk and actually got the key out of the spare wheel well. Good news! Or so I thought. Noise lessened, but continued. Similar consistency, just 3 clicks lower volume. 3rd visit(11/26/08): No test ride this time, they said it squeals right. Usually, from my experience, if you do not test ride, they will claim failure to duplicate. I dropped off the car at about 7pm and they said no test ride is necessary nor possible. Fine. Left in loaner car. Called around 12pm the next day, and they claimed a tech was looking at it. Even though I specifically asked to be called if the squeak cannot be duplicated so I can come in and test ride with a tech. I get a call at about 4 in the afternoon saying that no ABNORMAL squeal was found. So I go in, they tell me though squeak and squeals were observed via the ear, it is normal operation. WHAT!?!?!? Yeah, so I stayed there for about one hour complaining and demanding a test drive. Of course, cars have a mind of their own. I take the tech for the car and it decides to stay quiet for most of the ride. I asked the tech if he sprayed stop squeal on it or something. He says he didn't even really look at it. That he took the car out in the morning and it was squealing like HELL but then it calmed down. He assumed it was humidity. During our test ride, it squealed a few times, he felt it was normal. When I drive miles on end, opposed to their 3 mile test drive, I get plenty of squeaking. I asked why the loaner car does not squeal at all, they had no answer. All in all, no solution was brought forth. That's my rant. I traded in my 2006 Honda Civic due to transmission sticking in first and other b.s., to get an automatic accord with squeaky brakes. I think I would have rather kept my sticky trans civic. Happy Holidays to all. F%&$in' Honda, can't live with them, can't live without them. Prayers go out to Chrysler, GM and Ford workers. 1 month idol. Hope their Union pays them while they're out(Chrysler). If not I guess UI benefits will help.
