State-of-the-art Honda Accord debuts in Qatar Domasco officials Amr Younes, Madan Manjeshwar, Javak Sanghadia, Ajaz Sayed and Thomas Pramod, announce the launchStaff Reporter
DOMASCO, the exclusive distributors for Honda in Qatar, on Sunday unveiled the eighth generation Honda ‘Accord’ premium sedan in Doha.
The 2008 Accord model has a more spacious cabin, making it a large-sized sedan from the previous mid-size category. It also combines comfort, safety and environmental performance to meet the needs of the Qatari and GCC market.
Enthusiasts check out the latest AccordSpeaking on the occasion Domasco managing director Graeme Newport said: “It’s my distinct privilege to unveil the all new Honda Accord 2008, a true automotive marvel. This exclusive event is indicative of the importance Honda attaches to the region in general and Qatar in particular. We are once again asserting our status as one of the country’s leading business groups which have proved time and again its commitment to bringing the world’s best to Qatar.”
Honda Motor Company managing director Shigeru Takagi stressed that Honda has always been determined to create products for customers and society through innovations in product design and original technologies.
“We believe we should be providing products which will enrich our customers’ lives with new value, and which customers feel happy to own, so that Honda will become a company, the society wants to exist,” Takagi added.
Chief engineer at Honda R&D, Chitoshi Yokota, who was responsible for development of the new Accord revealed Honda had sold more than 15mn Accord vehicles in the 30 years since the model was first unveiled in 1976.”
“In 2006, Honda sold 620,000 Accords in more than in 160 countries, making it a mainstay of the Honda brand not just in the GCC region but around the world,” he added.
“More than half of all Honda vehicles sold in the GCC market are Accords. That’s why members of the development team made a point of visiting this region among others, making sure they had fully understood the needs of their customers throughout the world,” Yokota said.
Domasco has launched the 2.4-litre Accord models, while the 3.5V6 edition will be launched in the January, followed by the unveiling of the coupre version in March.
The key features of Honda’s original i-VTEC technology are the optimal intake and exhaust performance for powerful performance in all driving conditions. The Accord’s 2.4-litre L4 engine delivers 178 horsepower (net figure), while the 3.5-litre V6 engine delivers 271 horsepower.
The 3.5-litre V6 also features Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system for an optimal balance between better performance and enhanced fuel efficiency at cruising speeds.
The Accord’s new exterior also blends with its sporty appeal. Panoramic visibility, increased cabin space, improvised safety features, cruise control and the MP3 and WMA compatible entertainment system, along with dual airbags, ABS and the 3 point ELR seat-belts are all included in the latest models.
The car also allows room for 5-adult passengers, and churns out 21HP more, than any other vehicle in its class.
