Gas Mileage

I picked up my 2008 Accord EX Sedan AT last Wednesday and have been driving about an even mix of city and highway. Regularly, I drive 120km/day to and from work so gas efficiency is a big thing for me.

After filling up my first tank of gas last night (60L...ouch), I was shocked to only be getting 533km before the gas light went on (10.5L left according to the manual). I picked up the car with a full tank so that works out to be only 11.3L/100km (or 20.9mpg for you US folks).

I don't think I'm too agressive of a driver, averaging 120km/h on the highway. Does the mileage get better as the engine breaks in?

ps - Haven't had a chance to put photos up yet.

Well what engine did you get in it? I hope the V6! When I had my Civic SI there were some that thought they were not getting what they should be. If I recall right it did get better as the engine got some miles on it. I noticed mine started to run smoother and better once I hit about 30,000 miles. I believe it is important for these engines to break in. Don't be to hard on it and check the oil often. Use a good top quality oil like Mobile One full synthetic and change your oil when Honda tells you to or have it done at the dealer and your car should last a good long time.

It's an EX I4 engine. Needed to get the more efficient engine to save on gas. Didn't go for the Civic because I needed more passenger and truck space.

Hope you're right about the mileage as it breaks in more. I'll let you know if it improves after my second tank of gas next week.

It'll get better. I'm starting to see an improvement in my coupe after just 3500 miles. Just give it some time.

Does that mean I'll get better gas mileage if I drive across the border and drive more in the US? =)

lol hey, don't be ashamed driving in Canada!
I also get same L/Km as you Puff, however I believe that it will get better after the break in.
So far, I have 1600km on it with 4 days.
I am going to change my oil at 2000km. with K&N oil Filter for the accord 08, and hopefully K&N will come out with 08 accord drop in filters.

60L... Tonight, I filled up my coupe and I spend 64.. (wasnt even empty).

.................I miss my 06 civic..

Nope. "They" can still tell that you're Canadian.

So after my second tank of gas it has improved a little bit. I calculated that I got about 10.99L/100km or 21.4mpg.

Running on my third tank, it seems to continue to improve.

Might do an early oil change as well as I'm nearing 2000km. Fuel life reading went down to 90% already.
