Prior to ordering my coupe, I drove the Acura TL Type S. And LOVED it!
Beautifully done interior, all the latest in technology, a zippy engine with
adequate traction for a fwd performance sedan, nice 6spd manual, all
the looks, total luxury, that traditional Japanese reputation, and offered at a reasonable
price (if under $40K is 'reasonable').
I wanted all that, with fewer doors.
I also wanted some really attractive looks. Something Fresh.
So, I went for the Accord Coupe with the V6 manual transmission.
This car has all the niceties of the Acura TL, in its current iteration. Well, all
except the 'Type S' part, that is. See, the Accord really has more manners
than the Type S. It is very similar in performance, only much more subtle.
The quality is simply stunning.
Now, I know that these are made here in the states. I love OHIO! G0 BUCS!
And, the Acura is probably made under a microscope in Japan somewhere.
Touch the leather. Sit in it. Start the engine. Engage the shifter, and let it out
slow. Jump up two gears quick. Cruising at 45 in no time. The butt-dyno sings Bohemian Rhapsody.
You want technology, turn on the stereo. Try XM! Digital radio! 6 speakers with a subwoofer
pounding out 270 watts of crystal clear music to your ears! 6 CD's in dash.
Enjoying the ride? Best cruise control of any car I've ever driven. Ever. And I've driven
quite a few. Power sunroof as it is meant to be. Open, quiet, near wind-free, yet warming.
And, although you never hear it, or even feel it if you aren't pushing, there always is the awesome
268hp v6 engine. You know how your Honda 4 cyl feels and sounds on accelleration?
This one is quicker, stronger, smoother, quieter and more satisfying than yours-no offense.
So, this isn't the Type S, with the big bad brakes, and the growl in the cans. Though I am completely pleased with the new brake system-EBS-some type of electronic brake balancing
system, which must work well 'cause they feel great. No Brembo's here. This car just doesn't
have that hardened edge to it.
No, the package you get here, with the v6 manual anyway, is very similar to the Type S.
Just as much technology, nearly as much punch, certainly as much class
and comfort.
And better manners.
That's my type.
